Senior Execs from Major Companies, Universities Seek to Increase Women Workers in Tech amp Computing Senior Execs from Major Companies, Universities Seek to Increase Women Workers in Tech amp Computing NCWIT Pacesetters is a two-year program where senior leaders from companies and universities publicly commit to increasing the number of women in the U.S. computing and technology workforce. Participants use innovative recruitment and retention methods to tap new talent pools and introduce interventions for those at risk of leaving, with the goal of bringing significant net new women to their organizations. The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation, Google, and Qualcomm.Currently, women account for only 25 percent of all computing-related occupations in the country and comprise just 18 percent of all computing and information sciences degrees earned at U.S. institutions. NCWIT said that more than half (56 percent) of technical women leave their jobs at the mid-car eer level, when their loss is most costly to companies.The new cohort of NCWIT Pacesetters will start its two-year commitment with a meeting at the University of California at Santa Cruz on February 25, 2013. Some of the 20 universities and 14 companies participating include startups and in aller welt corporations, public and private universities, and state government departments, such as Intel, Google, ATT, Syracuse University School of Information Studies, Virginia Tech, Symantec, Facebook, Microsoft and Qualcomm.The participants from 2010s pilot NCWIT Pacesetters program saw significant results, includingGoogle doubled its number of female software engineering summer interns in 2011 compared to 2010.Women majoring in computer science at the University of California at Santa Cruz increased by 40 percent from two years agoBy participating in NCWIT Pacesetters, these organizations are holding themselves accountable for a quantifiable net new women goal within an aggressive time-fram e, Lucy Sanders, CEO of NCWIT, said. The position offers a measure of freedom and flexibility, as well as excellent travel benefits. But the pay is relatively low, and sometimes you may be working hours you wont find ideal. American Airlines is a major U.S. airline employing approximately 122,300 people as of May 2017, allowing a small fraction to work from home. The company offers generous benefits packages to all of its employees. Types of Work-at-Home Positions The airline mainly hires work-from-home reservation agents in three locations Fort Worth, Texas Cary, North Carolina and Miami, Florida. These agents are required to provide schedules, fare, and flight information during their calls. What You Will Need Applicants should be at least 18 years of age and have a high school or General Educational Development ( GED) diploma. Previous reservations or customer service experience in a call center environment is preferred but leid required. Agents must live within a 75-mile radius of American Airlines offices in the Texas, North Carolina, and Florida locations. Paid training for the first 10 weeks takes place onsite at the office in the respective locations before work-from-home can commence. Agents must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays. Employees must own a computer with a high-speed internet connection and a phone that can be used for the position. Salary and Benefits The pay scale starts at just above the federal minimum wage in 2018 on an hourly basis, but after a six-month probationary period, employees are eligible for a small raise. Employees enjoy free or low-fare travel benefits as perks. Health and dental insurance and paid vacation are among the others. There is also a 401(k) plan with some company matching. Past employees have said t he best parts of the job, aside from working from home, are the flexible hours and flight benefits.
